ACTIVISTS 2 WEEKS IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL
April 14th-28th 2002
The Autonoom Centrum Amsterdam in the Netherlands took the initiative to form a delegation to stay in Palestine and report on a daily base.
The purpose of this workvisit is:
-to
support the Palestine in the still and even worse occupied
territories by just being there
-to put pressure to transfer food, water and medication -monitoiring
the actual situation and the violations of human rights by
the Israeli army
-monitoiring the situation in and around the settlements
as well as the behaviour of the
colonists
-to report in photo and videomaterials the destruction done by
the Israeli offensive and declarations of witnesses
-to support Israeli and Palestinian peace- and activist groups
that donīt accept the occupation.
For us itīs clear that the International community already refuses for 35 years to put pressure on Israel to stop her policy of colonisation of the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan heights. It never came further than accepting a number of resolutions that call for an end of the occupation.
This, while the Israeli settlements in Palestine and the following colonisation are the centre of the conflict. The violence is only a result of that occupation. Also since the Oslo-agreements and during the peace-negotiations Israel just continued to build and expand the settlements and its infrastructure. This occupation has not led to any sanction. This is one of the reasons why we are in the situation we arrived in just now. In other words: the European countries and the US can be said to also be responsible for the actual situation. Time and time again the strategic and economic interests seem to be more important than human rights, justice and peace. The UN is a tooth-less organisation that depends concerning acting of the interest of the most rich and powerful countries.
The world is quick, and right, to condemn the Palestian acts ofterror against citizens of Israel and to demand that this stops. But in the same time nothing has been done against the now already 35 years of occupation and terror of Israel against the Palestinian. The double standard.
Off course we donīt need to be dependant of the willingness or unwillingness of the Dutch government, other EU governments and the US to put pressure on Israel and to show up action. We as citizens raise our voices. We want to call on everybody that seriously wants to put an end on this bloodshed and that wants a justice and peace, to undertake action in whatever way to put pressure on Israel to stop het settlement policy, to withdraw from the settlements and to withdraw behind the 1967 borderlines.
