Vredesoefening Schiphol groot succes Van 10.00 uur tot 11.30 uur werd vandaag door ongeveer 40 mensen aktie gevoerd op Schiphol tegen de medewerking van de luchthaven Schiphol en diverse luchtvaartmaatschappijen aan de oorlogsvoorbereiding tegen Irak. De aktie was bedoeld om druk uit te oefenen op deze maatschappijen en tevens als 'inkijkoperatie' ter voorbereiding van een grote aktie op 15 maart aanstaande. Er werden pamfletten uitgedeeld, aktievoerders liepen met spandoeken en borden rond en overhandigden een brief ter attentie van de directie van de Luchthaven Schiphol bij de Schiphol Infobalie, waarin de Luchthaven verzocht wordt haar medewerking aan de oorlogsvoorbereiding onmiddellijk te stoppen. De hekwerken rond de luchthaven zijn opgemeten en op stevigheid getest. Ook security-poortjes zijn opgemeten. Bij de KLM-balies is geoefend voor een zitblokkade en buiten is de toegang naar de luchthavenplatforms waar de vliegtuigen staan bestormd. Hier bleek dat akties wel degelijk mogelijk zijn want ondanks de vele aanwezige politie en Marechaussee lukt het een tiental mensen het terrein op te komen. Het was echter een oefening, dus werd door aktievoerders niet moeilijk gedaan toen de in paniek toesnellende Marechaussee hen weer het terrein afduwde. Aan het eind van de aktie zijn bij het meeting point in een openbare vergadering de vergaarde informatie en bevindingen kort doorgenomen. Het bleek dat het met aktievoerders snel zaken doen is want de inspecties hadden in twee uur voldoende informatie opgeleverd en over de tijdsplanning was men het ook snel eens. Bij geen gehoor van de zijde van de directie van Luchthaven Schiphol komen we 15 maart a.s. terug en we hopen velen met ons. In this way, the Netherlands are contributing to the warmachine that continues to be built in the Middle East. The war against Iraq will have farreaching and devastating consequences. The Iraqi population, already destitute and exhausted because of the embargo imposed on it for years, will once again be the victim. Tension in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world will increase and escalate. International law will only be further subverted. Quite obviously the regime of Saddam Hussein has go, like all dictatorial regimes in the world have go. A war however will only result in more misery and pain. On the other hand supporting the Iraqi people and the democratic opposition, and serious weaponinspections in ALL countries that have weapons of mass destruction, can contribute to a more peaceful and just world. The war that the United States and the United Kingdom want to fight is not about the interests of the Iraqi people. It is about the control over Iraqi oil resources, about strengthening the position of the USA in the world and vis-à-vis the United Nations. We demand that the Dutch governemnt and Dutch companies stop immediately to collaborate with the military transports. In the same weekend that the Ducth government agreed to US forces crossing Dutch territory with the transports, in the Netherlands alone 80.000 people took to the streets to protest against a war in Iraq. Worldwide, over 11 million people took part in peace rallies. Numerous polls and surveys show clearly and repeatedly that a large majority of the Ducth (but also of world opinion) denounces this war against Iraq. De institutions that contribute to the preparations for war, such as our government, the Dutch Railways, the Rotterdam Port and Schiphol Airport, cannot continue to neglect the massive resitance against what they are doing. These bodies should resist a war in stead of contribute to it. Therefore, the military transports, including those via Schiphol Airport, have to be stopped immediately. Not in our name, and not through our airspace!
